Why do people say free trade is evil?
Question by bored: Why do people say free trade is evil?
Why don’t the same people advocate a policy whereby no two people living in different homes can trade freely with each other?
Why not force everyone in California to only buy from California?
By their own logic that should help the economy.

Yes, the people who normally say free trade is evil or not economists and thus they are not in a position to make any constructive statements. Anyway, anyone who is economically trained would not use the word evil to debate most things because it is a normative word.
The people who are anti-free trade argue not from the aggregate level which economists generally see but they argue against it because their lives are affected in a negative way by free trade (they work in sunset industries or had their jobs outsourced). The statements made by these sort of people can be ignored.
But note that while free trade is generally good for the economy overall, these people are real life examples that free trade do bring about losers as well, most gain and some lose. It is up to these people to make themselves more competitive through retraining and not whine about their problems.
Note that the same people who say that free trade is evil are going to use the same argument and say I am evil if they read what I wrote lol.
